Dave was born and raised in Decatur, IL. He was born again during the Jesus Movement in 1969 and baptized in the Holy Spirit. The next several years after coming to Christ were spent in Central Illinois, evangelizing and discipling youth before settling down in Springfield, IL. Dave worked among the youth in Springfield at the Agape Inn and The Lighter Side of Darkness coffeehouse, where he met his future wife, Valerie Speer. They married in 1972 and are the parents of 4 grown daughters. Dave has a B.A. in Management from Sangamon State University, and has nearly completed his M. A. in History at University of Illinois at Springfield. He is currently employed by the IL Department of Revenue in Information Services.

Dave was active in his local church, Bethel Assembly (later renamed to New Life Worship Church) where he served for over 27 years in a variety of capacities, including as deacon and as elder. Dave studied Bible classes at his church under Pastor Delbert Wells and other excellent Bible teachers. In 2000, he graduated from Christian Training Institute in Taylorville, IL along with his wife, Valerie. Dave has taught a number of courses at Bethel/New Life including Cults, New Testament Survey, Church History. He also served as Librarian there for many years.

Late in 1998 while still in Bible School, the Lord led Dave and Valerie to begin Oasis of Life Church in Pana, IL. In the Spring of 2004, God led them back to Springfield. Dave and Valerie attend Koke Mill Christian Church in Springfield. Dave is very involved with the Mission Team there. He also ministers in other churches and outreaches as the Lord opens the doors. His passions are books, Missions, Church History and encouraging believers.
